At its September 25 Executive Board meeting, the Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus (TSDC) officially welcomed the Stonewall Democrats of El Paso and the El Paso Stonewall Young Democrats as new affiliates of the TSDC.  Both chapters complied with all threshold requirements for affiliate status and their Presidents and Vice Presidents were added as members of the TSDC Executive Board.

Stonewall Democrats of El Paso (SDEP) was organized in April of this year and registered as a general purpose political committee with the Texas Ethics Commission (TEC).  SDEP currently has 15 dues-paying members and meets on a monthly basis.  The SDEP President is Daniel Rollings, a local LGBT activist who had been previously involved with other groups, including PFLAG of El Paso.

El Paso Stonewall Young Democrats (EPSYD) formed a few weeks ago, registered its PAC status with the TEC and starts out with 35 members. EPSYD's President is Casey Antonio Williams, a young law school graduate. EPSYD is also an affiliate of the El Paso Young Democrats.   EPSYD's voting membership is limited to persons who are between the ages of 18 and 40 years.

This is not the first time a Stonewall Democrats chapter was formed in El Paso. In 2000, a group called Borderland Stonewall Democrats was formed and hosted LGBT delegates to the 2002 State Democratic Convention in El Paso. Shortly thereafter, the chapter became inactive and eventually went out of existence.

"We are excited to have El Paso back in our Stonewall Democrats family," said Dan Graney, President of the TSDC. "Having two chapters from that city come on board at the same time is pretty amazing."

There are now 11 local Stonewall Democrats affiliates statewide and they are in Austin, Dallas, Denton County, El Paso, Houston, the lower Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio and Tarrant County.  There are other chapters forming in Cameron County(Brownsville) and Galveston.
